John Ringling was one of the area's
first visitors to realize the potential of this Gulf Coast paradise. In
the 1920's Ringling designated the Sarasota Area as winter headquarters
for the world-famous Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus.
Today, visitors of all ages can enjoy his
entertainment legacy at the John & Mable Ringling Museum Complex, which
includes the Circus Galleries, Museum of Art and Ca'd'Zan, Ringling's Venetian
mansion on Sarasota Bay. Sarasota, as the cultural capital of Southwest-Florida
offers entertainment for every taste. Just to mention the most important
cultural institutions: A solo Center for the Performing Arts, Van Wezel
Performing Arts Hall, Florida West Coast Symphonic Band, Florida Studio
Theatre, Sarasota Ballet Company, Sarasota Opera Company, Sarasota Film

Sarasota with it's azure-blue waters is
known and loved for its amazing white public beaches which stretch for
32 miles. A series of Islands: Longboat Key, Lido Key, Siesta Key and Casey
Key offer you seaside pleasures like sailing, snorkeling, fishing, strolling
along the beach, playing golf or tennis.
At the Mote Marine Aquarium you can look
at more than 200 varieties of fish and invertebrates of the sea and touch
many of these amazing animals in the 30-foot-touch tank. Just across the
street you can visit the Pelican Man Dale Shields, who dedicades his life
with the help of many volunteers to the rescue of injured birds and repatriation
of them. The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens on 11 bayfront acres are an
open-air and under-glass museum of more than 20 000 colorful plants. Not
to forget the South Florida Museum, Bishop Planetarium and Parker Manatee
Aquarium.
The Sarasota Area offers Restaurants for
all tastes. Be it fresh seafood, italian, steaks and ale, japanese, french
or chinese. At nighttime bars and nightclubs will make you stay awake.
Exclusive shops at St. Armands Circle, several
Malls or the Sarasota Outlet Center are there to delight your shopping
taste.
